Press Release – February 2012

Little Nancy Creek Park – The Playground is Here!

Yes, you read that correctly – the playground at Little Nancy Creek Park is finally here! A big thanks to everyone in the community, both corporations and individuals, who has contributed as well as to the City Parks Department and Park Pride who have been invaluable partners. We also must call out our own Gordon Anderson who has spent countless volunteer hours to oversee the playground build and make this vision a reality. Thank you to all for showing us what it truly means to come together as a community.

For anyone who hasn't been following the daily progress in the park, we now have an 8,000 square foot, community-designed, "state of the art" playground for the children in our neighborhood to enjoy. We are still in the process of putting on the finishing touches and conducting some final safety inspections, but we expect to have our grand opening late this month or early April ---- so stay tuned!

While we'd like to focus purely on what a wonderful development this, we also want to address the safety concerns many of you have raised regarding access to the park and parking. We are in the midst of discussing these concerns with the City which is responsible for funding safety improvements related to accessing the park from Peachtree Dunwoody. Particularly given the speed of traffic, we realize adequate safety measures are a priority and have asked the City to move as quickly as possible.

With regard to parking and accessibility of the playground once inside the park, the community must provide the needed funds to enhance this. Particularly, we are in the midst of trying to raise money to improve driveway access to the parking lot as well as landscaping around the playground so that children can run freely without fear of poison ivy or other plant-related hazards. Any donations related to these items would be sincerely appreciated. You can donate online at or use the contact information there to reach us in person. We believe the opportunity to help build a park that will last for generations is a truly unique way to give.

With the playground close to completion, we are also starting to think about how we can enjoy Atlanta's beautiful spring weather in the park. We are already planning a number of fun events so please be on the lookout for emails and announcements on future happenings in the park. In particular, judging from the smiles last year, you won't want to miss our annual Easter Egg Hunt! Again, please reach out to us if you'd like to donate or get involved. We look forward to seeing you in the park this spring!
